Donate a device

Your old device becomes someone’s working computer

Check what we take, sign out of your accounts, then bring it to the shop on Main Street. Devices we can’t give away are sold to fund the next one, or recycled responsibly.

What we take

We take

  • Laptops and desktops
  • Phones and tablets
  • Accessories and cables
  • Sound bars and desktop speakers (3.5mm aux)
  • Digital cameras
  • Gaming systems

Old and broken computers too. We use the working parts and recycle the rest responsibly.

We can’t take

  • TVs and DVD or Blu-ray players
  • Printers and ink
  • Stereos and bare-wire speakers
  • Household appliances

Preparing your devices for donation

We cannot use devices that are “Cloud Locked.” If you do not sign out of your Apple (iCloud) or Google accounts, the device becomes permanently locked and we have to recycle it instead of reusing it.

Android devices

Newer Android devices use “Factory Reset Protection” (FRP). If you reset the phone without removing your Google account first, the phone will remain locked to you.

Step 1: Remove the Google account

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Look for Accounts, Accounts and Backup, or Passwords & Accounts.
  3. Tap your Google Account (usually your Gmail address).
  4. Tap Remove Account. You may need to enter your PIN or pattern to confirm.
  5. Repeat this for any other Google accounts listed.

Step 2: Factory reset

  1. Go to Settings > System (or General Management).
  2. Tap Reset or Reset Options.
  3. Select Erase all data (factory reset).
Apple devices

These devices use a strict activation lock that makes them unusable. You must remove your device from the “Find My” portal.

If you are stuck, follow Apple’s official guide to remove activation lock, or reach out and we will be happy to help in person or over the phone.

PCs and laptops

No action is usually needed on your part for Windows devices. We will securely erase or destroy your data.

If your device was issued to you by your employer, it may be registered as their property. In this case, please share your employer’s name and contact information with us.

Every drive is wiped with ShredOS (one pass for SSDs, three for hard drives) or physically destroyed before a device leaves us. Have something not listed here, or a question? Reach out and we’ll help.
